We’ve all known for years that Ricky Martin was livin’ la vida gay….but today he made the official leap out of the closet on his website. In a very personal letter to his fans, the former Menudo member opened up about acceptance and needing to free himself:

“I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man.I am very blessed to be who I am.”

“To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids where [sic] born with. Enough is enough. This has to change. This was not supposed to happen 5 or 10 years ago, it is supposed to happen now. Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment,” he wrote.

Ok then. Sean Hayes came out a few weeks, now Ricky. Who’s next? Jake G? Tom C. ? Vin D? Don’t celebs come out in threes like they die in threes?

Ricky Martin has angered the Catholic Church, or at least one leading Latino Cardinal who says the singer has “acted without dignity.” The Puerto Rican singer recently fathered twin boys through a surrogate mother who is rumored to be his cousin. Ewwww.

The cardinal of Honduras, Oscar Andres Rodriguez, accuses the singer of going against human dignity. On a visit to Chile, the Catholic leader said, “What Martin did diminishes the dignity of a human being. You can’t just buy or rent life. It’s even worse when someone famous and in the public eye is doing it.”

The good cardinal isn’t the only who finds Ricky’s methods offensive. A Mexican talk show host told his audience this week that, “I don’t think it’s right to deny children of maternal figures, just because you have a big ego.” Who says these kids won’t have a mother figure? They have Ricky, don’t they?
