Michael Cera Eyed For “Gilligan’s Island” Movie

Hollywood really is out of good ideas for movies. Their plan? Keep ruining out pop-culture classic television shows by butchering them on the big screen. Next up is the 1960′s hit Gilligan’s Island. Normally the news of a old-school show remake wouldn’t even register with me, but the news of Michael Cera being on the top of the list to play the lovable, dopey Gilligan is so spot-on that it got me interested.

If they managed to land Cera in this role and they get creative with the rest of the cast. Here’s my cast “wish list”.

Stephen Colbert as the Professor                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Isla Fisher as Mary Ann or possibly Rachel McAdams, Anna Kendrick or Amanda Seyfried
Seth Rogen as Skipper (he doesn’t have to be old- they are updating it)
Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara as Mr. and Mrs. Howell
Christina Hendricks as Ginger

I actually feel like if they don’t get Christina Hendricks to play Ginger they might as well scrap the whole deal. Although, really..even with perfect casting it’s still going to suck. Remember The Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky and Hutch, The Brady Bunch, Bewitched and the one that really pissed me off Land of the Lost.

The new film will put a contemporary spin on the original characters and plot of the show, Variety reported this week.

Michael Cera Is The New Gilligan

Another classic television show is heading to the big screen, and so far the casting for it’s beloved characters are dead on. The powers that be are courting sweet little Michael Cera to play the dopey Gilligan on the updated movie version of Gilligan’s Island.

So far the only other character we’ve heard tell of is Beyonce as the glamorous Ginger. I vote for Katie Holmes as Mary-Ann…and Harry Connick, Jr as the Professor.
