I highly doubt that American Idol will actually give Simon Cowell’s judge chair to Jessica Simpson..especially since the latest rumor is that Nigel Lythgoe from So You Think You Can Dance is headed back to Idol. Nigel oversaw Idol for its first seven more popular seasons and Fox wants him back to fix shit.

Word on the street is that Nigel and Simon Fuller have Justin Timberlake and Elton John at the top of their judge wish lists..so there is no way in hell Jess is gonna beat out JT or Sir Elton.

But wouldn’t she make a perfect replacement for Paula Abdul’s booze and Vicodin rants?

Life & Style is reporting that she is “in negotiations” to fill Simon’s vacant spot.

“She’s met with producer-creator Simon Fuller several times. They like her — she’s a good fit — and she likes it. Now it’s just a question of how to fit her in.”

I say they squeeze her in right between Randy and Kara. Catfight on one side and bitch slappin’ on the other.

Put a nail in Paula Abdul’s coffin. Her stint as the lovable but ditzy judge is over and the new guard is going to include the dance-a-licous Ellen DeGeneres.

Color me shocked. I didn’t see this one coming. Even after Ellen’s guest judge appearance on So You Think You Can Dance. I should have known there was something up..she was totally chatting up Nigel.

Fox announced Wednesday the talk show host and comedian, who admittedly has no formal music experience other than a passion for tunes, would join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi for the ninth season starting in January.

The announcement all but seals the departure of Paula Abdul, who announced she was quitting the show amid a contract dispute in July.

DeGeneres told her talk show audience in an episode scheduled to air Thursday that she would not abandon her Emmy-winning chatfest, but would have “a day job and a night job. The times we’re living in,” she quipped, “we’re all doing that.”

“Hopefully, I’m the people’s point of view because I’m just like you,” DeGeneres said on her show. “I sit at home and I watch it, and I don’t have that technical … I’m not looking at it in a critical way from the producer’s mind. I’m looking at it as a person who is going to buy the music and is going to relate to that person.”
