While they did change the promo for the show after everyone completely freaked, the Italian-Amercian president of programming at MTV Tony DiSanto is still defending their new  controversial fake-reality show, Jersey Shore. Following the same successful format the network has used for years on The Hills, Jersey Shore follows a group of twenty-somethings visiting a New Jersey beach town for the summer. It has been criticized by many Italian-Americans as a “trashy and stereotypical” portrayal of the group.

“We stand by the show. We really think it delivers entertainment and balance. We’re obviously sensitive to everybody’s POV. That’s why we made changes in the promo, but there’s no intention to change anything in the show. I think that as more people check it out, they’ll grow to love it more and more. Also, no show is for everybody and no show can be. If you try to make every show for everybody, you dilute the creative…..”
