When will people learn that just because a celebrity wants to be a designer, that doesn’t mean they should be a designer. Ungaro debuted it’s Lindsay Lohan / Estrella Archs collaborative line at fashion week in Paris this weekend.
Hiring Lilo was a last ditch attempt to revive the failing line and guess what? The reviews are in and the fashion industry are not amused.
“The collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Being a young, pretty, controversial woman who looks good in clothes and photo ops just isn’t enough.” – Women’s Wear Daily
“…a celebrity-led aesthetic that was obvious to the point of banality.” – The Independent
“Hearts but no soul…The Emanuel Ungaro show on Sunday may go down in history as the final gasp of celebrity madness.” – The New York Times
Most of the people invited to the after party didn’t even show up, leading one reporter to comment that “bigger crowds have turned out for free champagne at store openings.” Estrella and Lindsay sat at separate tables with their backs to each other after the show. Read: They both knew it sucked.
Estrella Archs said that the collection “had to be designed very quickly.” The Spanish designer had just three weeks to put together the collection with Lindsay looking over her shoulder the whole time. I get that she to acquiesce to Lindsay on some things…but did the entire collection have to include sequin hearts?
