The Royal family have a hard time keeping Princess Kate’s body parts out of the tabloids. The same Italian gossip mag that printed those topless pictures of the Duchess sunbathing last September have just published the first photos of the royal baby bump in bikini.
The Palace is furious, of course, that the future Queen of England is being photographed pregnant in a bikini. I think the bigger news here is that Princess Kate has frizzy beach hair. I wasn’t expecting that one.
Chi, the magazine owned by former Italian Primer Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s Mondadori group, published the paparazzi photos of a pregnant Kate Middleton sunbathing in a bikini while on a private holiday with Prince William in the Caribbean, the British newspaper the Guardian reported.
A royal spokesperson said the publication of the photos was “a clear breach of the couple’s right to privacy,” according to the newspaper the New Zealand Herald. The St James’s Palace spokesperson added: “We are disappointed that photographs of the Duke and Duchess on a private holiday look likely to be published overseas,” the Guardian reported.
In response the tabloid basically says..hey…deal with it:
They are images of such unexceptional normality that there is only limited mention of them on the cover of the magazine,” Chi’s editor, Alfonso Signorini, told the BBC. “The photographs, which can in no way be considered scandalous, were bought from an international photo agency, do not harm the image of the protagonists and the reaction of the media seems to me wholly over the top.”
“Moreover, the photographs can hardly be considered an invasion of privacy when the subjects are public figures in a public place, in the open air; specifically on a beach surrounded by other bathers.” Signorini also noted that the Italian press does not have the kind of “gentlemen’s agreement” that U.K. rags have with the royal family in which they’ll refrain from publishing certain photos of the couple during intimate times together.
“What our readers will see is simply a moment of joyful relaxation being enjoyed by a smiling, happy couple. Where’s the scandal in that?” he said.
