David Beckham’s Son Cruz Was Named After Tom Cruise

In a new book titled “The Beckham Experiment” by Sports Illustrated writer Grant Wahl, we learn that the bromance between David Beckham and Tom Cruise runs deeper than most of us thought. To hear Becks tell it, Cruise has influenced every major decision he has made since the two met in 2003.
David and Victoria have been close friends with Tom and Katie since they first met in 2003 and in fact, they’ve all become so close that the Beckham’s youngest son was actually named after Tom.
He tells Wahl, “I must admit, when (Victoria and I) met Tom, I remember turning around to Victoria and saying, ‘Cruise is a great name, but we could spell it different.’ And also, living in Spain, Cruz is spelled the way it is in Spanish. So that’s why we got it.”
