Zac will replace Tobey Maguire in the fourth blockbuster movie, due to start shooting later this year and scheduled to hit cinemas in 2012.  Tobey, 34, stunned bosses at Universal Pictures last year when he announced he was quitting the megabucks franchise.

But a studio insider revealed: “After dumping Spidey, Tobey then came to the rescue by recommending that Zac should take over his role.”

Producers believe the 22-year-old, who has a huge teen following, will bring new fans to the Spider-Man series by playing the reluctant hero and his alter ego Peter Parker. They are also believed to be considering reuniting Zac with his High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens, 21. She is hotly tipped to replace Kirsten Dunst, 27, as Spider-Man’s love interest and the source added: “It would be a great coup to land her as well.

“The franchise would be revitalised and transformed by two of Hollywood’s most gifted and fast-rising young stars.”

And this my friends, is why is so crucial that Zac continue to convince everyone that he is straight.

At a recent movie premiere this married foreign born B-/C+ list movie actor appeared to out this former A list tweener and now B list movie actor. Zac Efron has pissed off the peeps at Paramount by pulling out of the new updated version of Footloose.

Zac is worried that playing Ren in this classic dancy-music movie will pigeon hole him into always being a song and dance man. I think that 3 High School Musicals and one Hairspray already did that…but whatever.

Efron told the studio last week that he did not want to do another musical at this point in his career, according to a senior member of the production team.The team member told TheWrap that Efron had script approval on the movie and used a rewrite on the screenplay as the loophole to get out of his contract: “People had been working on this project since last July — we were all shocked.”

Zac must not watch Entourage. If he did he would see that burning bridges in Hollywood takes you back to Queens…or San Luis Obispo in his case.
