The first stories about the Russell Brand / Katy Perry divorce were all about Russell not being a the marrying kind…that he may have reverted back to his old freaky ways. But that may not be true. Flash forward a few day later and we’ve learned that Katy asked Russell to file the papers so her very religious parents wouldn’t be upset.

Also…we all know that Katy is still in the work hard/ play hard phase of her life. Every time I see her on an awards show she is tipsy and then this report popped up today:

Our sources tell us … because of the friction and their schedules, they never spent long periods of time with each other.
One big bone of contention … Russell was much more of a homebody than Katy. Katy loved going out and partying, while Russell (who is sober) didn’t enjoy the scene at all. We’re told he would often insist on leaving places early and asking her to come with … which would trigger an argument.

Heavy partying and drinking would explain Katy’s belly bump that everyone has been speculating on. Another little known fact is  that Russell was ready to start a family and Katy wanted to wait a few years and work on her career. And drink.

So it looks like we all owe Russ a big apology. Looks like the breakdown was on Katy’s side.

You knew it was coming. My first thoughts were that he got bored. I’ve never thought he could be a one woman man. (Are any of them really????)

The big news this afternoon was that after all the speculation of them spending the holidays apart Russell Brand blindsided Katy Perry by filing for divorce.  Here is his pathetic statement: ‘Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.’

He might as well have said, “It’s not you love, it’s me.” Typical. At least he ended it and didn’t cheat on her all over the globe.

Can you IMAGINE the “I told you so’s” Katy is going to have to hear from her parents????

On another topic…I’d say they are real…and they are SPECTACULAR!

The Daily Mail has a big story about how Russell Brand and Katy Perry are splitting up because they spent Christmas apart. While I agree it sucks a big one to spend the holidays without your soulmate….these two do actually work really hard.

Superstar Perry, 27, was photographed enjoying the tropical waters in Hawaii on the big day, and was not wearing her wedding ring as she enjoyed the surf with a group of friends according to an eye-witness. Meanwhile, Britain’s Sun newspaper is reporting that Russell, 36 , was over 7000 miles away in a Cornwall pub, before heading along to his friend David Baddiel’s charity swim, where he was pictured.

But don’t worry…every time one of these rumors pops up…sweet Russell shoots it right back down. Like he did on Ellen last month.

The British comedian appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show earlier this month and addressed the recent speculation that his one-year marriage has hit the skids. When told about the frenzied split speculation, Brand jokingly replied: ‘What?! She should have told me!’

He added: ‘I’ve treated the whole Internet now as a wicked little liar.’‘I am really happily married,’ he insisted. He added: ‘Being famous is like a little bit of you is taken away and goes off and lives on its own and does what it wants.’ ‘I wish it would do more interesting things.’‘I don’t know what is doing, but I’m married to Katy,’ he continued. ‘Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive.’

When asked about starting a family, Brand said he’d really like to expand his brood with Perry.

‘I would like one. I love those little babies in the beginning,’ he said. Until then, the couple are content with being godparents to twin boys.‘I’m just observing them like I’m a scientist,’ he said of his godchildren.‘So I can learn from them. Me and Katy are their godparents, which mean we’re responsible for their spiritual growth. Should be interesting … ‘
