Dennis Hopper Dead At 74Posted on: May 29, 2010 | Comments Off
This one really makes me sad. The coolness that was Dennis Hopper has passed away. You could argue that at 74 he lived a long, full life. But his last few months were drenched in sickness and drama. Hopper fell ill last September. He continued working almost to the very end, both on his cable TV series “Crash” and on a book showcasing his photography. But his final months were also consumed by a bitter divorce battle with his fifth wife, Victoria Duffy. If you are too young to really know much about Denny…I highly suggest you Netflix Easy Rider and just for fun that cheesy Keifer Sutherland movie Flashback and True Romance. A few of my Hopper favs. The hard-living screen star died at his home in the coastal Los Angeles suburb of Venice at 8:15 a.m. PDT (1515 GMT), surrounded by family and friends, the friend, Alex Hitz, told Reuters. In a wildly varied career spanning more than 50 years, Hopper appeared alongside his mentor James Dean in “Rebel Without a Cause” and “Giant” in the 1950s and played maniacs in such films as “Apocalypse Now,” “Blue Velvet” and “Speed.” He received two Oscar nominations — for writing “Easy Rider” (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern), and for a rare heartwarming turn as an alcoholic high-school basketball coach in the 1986 drama “Hoosiers.” “Easy Rider,” regarded is one of the greatest films of American cinema, helped usher in a new era in which the old Hollywood guard was forced to cede power to young filmmakers such as Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese.
Dennis Hopper Ordered To Pay Wife $12,000 A MonthPosted on: April 6, 2010 | Comments Off
Dennis Hopper just can’t catch a freakin’ break. He must have some really bad karma built over his lifetime for this shit to happen at the very end of his existence. With his likely death looming just around the corner from the Big C…a judge just ordered him to pay his estranged wife $8000 a month in spousal support and $4000 in child support. $12,000 really isn’t that much for a Hollywood divorce. Considering that Britney Spears once had to shell out over $20,000 to Kevin Federline every month. Then again that was for two kids and she’s always got money coming in. Hopper says he is unable to pay more than $5000 a month because his ill-health keeps him from working. Because he is unable to work, the actor’s finances are stagnant and his accountant states his liquid assets total about $300,000. Victoria does not believe Hopper is in financial peril, however, claiming he has earned millions in recent years by selling his artwork. He claims that in the last nine years he has only profited $45,000 from the sales. If I were homegirl..I’d be less worried about the right now, and more concerned about what she and her seven year old daughter are going to do after he dies.
Cancer Striken Dennis Hopper Shops For PotPosted on: January 25, 2010 | Comments Off
Most reports have been claiming that Dennis Hopper has precious few days to live after battling prostrate cancer for the past six months. But don’t count him out just yet. The movie legend was spotted shopping for some medical marijuana at a shop cleverly named The Farmacy Cannabis Club in Venice yesterday. Dennis, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in September and recently started a new round of chemotherapy, was wearing a black fleece, cap and tinted glasses as he made his way through the store. In addition to selling marijuana and pot-infused products like brownies, lollipops and teas — all legal for qualified patients who carry a medical marijuana identification card — The Farmacy offers other holistic treatments, including herbs and vitamins, and services including acupuncture. He was also wearing his wedding ring despite having just filed for divorced from his 5th wife, Victoria Duffy-Hopper, stating that he didn’t want to deal with marital drama while fighting for his life. “I wish Victoria the best but only want to spend these difficult days surrounded by my children and close friends,” he said.
Dennis Hopper Diagnosed With Prostate CancerPosted on: October 30, 2009 | Comments Off
I. Hate.Cancer. It’s evil, it’s so random and it’s scary. But to be fair, cancer doesn’t discriminate. Cancer doesn’t care if you are a regular Joe or a famous celebrity. Dennis Hopper has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is canceling all travel plans to focus on treatment, his manager said Thursday. The 73-year-old actor and artist is being treated through a “special program” at the University of Southern California, said Sam Maydew.Asked about Hopper’s prognosis, Maydew said, “We’re hoping for the best.” He would not elaborate on the actor’s condition.
