Brazilian model Ana Carolina Reston passed away November 14 in Sao Paulo from a generalized infection caused by anorexia. The death of Ana comes after growing critism of the use of grossly underweight models in the fashion world and after Madrid banned models that had a BMI of under 18. Ana Carolina Reston’s BMI was 13.5. She is not the first model to succumb to the pressure to be uber thin in the modeling industry, just last August a Uruguayan model named Luisel Ramos died of heart failure during a fashion show in Montevideo.
Ana Reston weighed only 88 pounds and was about 5 feet 8 inches tall. Doctors consider the weight normal for a 12-year-old girl about 5 feet tall. It’s reported that she was part of an online community called “Skinny Ones Rule”.
