Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Teaching Kids French As Second Language

Us Magazine ran a little story about Shiloh Jolie-Pitt turning two years old and being gorgeous like mama..yada yada yada. The real interesting tidbit in the blurb was that in the Jolie-Pitt household, French is being taught as a second language.
“[French is] a second language in the house, although I’m still learning and am not going to attempt any of it here today,” Jolie said on May 15. “My children are starting to speak French, so being here is very good for them and their language.”
I guess if you are going to raise a globe-trotting army family, you’d better them how to communicate with the rest of the world. Does anyone else find it odd that although Angie’s mom was French, she never taught her daughter to speak it?
