Thank God that someone at the White House was on their toes. Can you imagine what the spin on this story would’ve been had comic genious Sacha Baron Cohen actually gotten through the gates? Yesterday afternoon secret service agents turned away British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, in character as Borat, a hilarious, boorish, anti-Semitic journalist, a character that Cohen made famous on his HBO hit, Da Ali G Show. Cohen showed up at the White House in full on Borat mode to invite “Premier George Walter Bush” to a screening of his upcoming movie, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” Apparantly Borat also invited OJ Simpson, Mel Gibson and other American dignitaries.
Cohen’s stunt was brilliantly timed to coincide with an official visit by Kazakh President, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who is meeting with President Bush today. Cohen’s comedy style is really an acquired taste, and if you don’t get it you might find his tactics distasteful, but you have to admit that crazy Borat has big cahones.
